Biography

Bart Markvoort was born in 1973 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. He attended the Scholengemeenschap Augustinianum, in Eindhoven, where he obtained his Gymnasium diploma in 1991. From 1991 he studied applied physics at the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven. In April 1997 he graduated on the subject of small angle x-ray scattering on asphaltenes in the Theoretical Physics group under supervision of Prof. Thijs Michels. After his graduation, he started his Ph.D. work in the Parallel Systems group of the Computer Science department at the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, supervised by Prof. Peter Hilbers. His project was about the application of wavelets to speed up electronic structure calculations. From September 1st, 2001, Bart continued his research as a research fellow and teacher within the BioModeling and bioInformatics group of the Biomedical Engineering department at the same univerity. Together with Koen Pieterse he set up the molecular simulations group. The emphasis of this group is on the simulation of membranes and membrane proteins. From September 1st, 2005, he continued his work as a postdoc in the group of Prof. Rutger van Santen.
